LTU’s design stars shine in Red Dot Awards, become the top of the world!

Students of Department of Visual Communication Design had won 3 awards in Germany’s “Red Dot Design Award.”
“Red Dot Design Award,” recognized as “Oscar Award in Design,” provides young designers opportunities to show their talents. “Among 7,451 projects from 53 countries,” Chang Lu-Hsin, head of the Department of Visual Communication Design, said “only 1% of the projects can win ‘Best of the Best’, and 9% can win ‘Red Dot Award.’” LTU’s Visual Communication Design have won 2 “Best of the Best” and 1 “Red Dot” for the first competition.
“Pure” is one of the “Best of the Best” award recipient. Chief Designer Yen Ching-Yu explained that the idea was inspired by a masterpiece in the 17th century China: “The Exploitation of the Works of Nature.” The project was made by special permeable materials which can present multi-dimensional images. Another “Best of the Best” recipient, “The way back home” represents social responsibility of a designer. The design team applied their experiences from part-time jobs in farms in Huwei, Wanggong, and Nanchuang. The goal of this work is to inspire young adults to preserve their homeland, Taiwan. The recipient of “Red Dot,” “Happy Egg,” responds to the issue of food scandals. The primary purpose of this project is to promote cage-free eggs. For this purpose, the design applies pneumatic casing with lovely symbols to attract consumers choosing healthy eggs.

Honors from the Red Dot competition not only encourage prospective designers, but also recognize the success of LTU’s design training program. President Chao Chih-Yang believes that “these honors strengthen our compatibility among top 100 design programs in the world. In the future, the university will largely invest on both hardware and software of the College of Design. In addition, students are encouraged to study abroad to expand global vision and compatibility.”
