Our school follows the ancient ritual to welcome new students. For the opening ceremonies of the new academic year, departments at all levels promoted their own characteristics, hoping the newly enrolled students to enjoy brand new campus experiences.

To respect the dignity and professions of the teachers, the main obligation of education is to meet students’ educational needs and to enhance their learning achievement. The school emphasizes the virtues of respect for teachers and students’ learning achievement, the tradition from previous years, “Apprenticeship Commitment,” is held in this year’s Freshmen Welcoming Ceremony.

The ceremony begins with a performance by Jeou-Tian Folklore Society (Small Nine Skies). The performance presents "Outstanding Ling Tung, Overcome the Obstacles," which hopes to pass the spirits to the hearts of the students, so their university lives will be as exciting as the drums!

Freshmen Welcoming Ceremony this year also in shared former students’ achievements. First, for the College of Design, Department of Visual Communication Design had won two "Best Award" and a "Red Dot Award". Germany’s Red Dot Design Award, known as the "Design Oscars", attracts a total of 53 countries worldwide, works from 7,451, but only 1% of the work can get the best award. Also, only 9% of the works can get the Red Dot Award. Our school had achieved quite fruitfully. These three groups of winners are the pride of our school, and they returned to their alma mater to thank the school and the teachers for educating them. We carefully cultivated, and dedicated to the glory of this award-winning schools, so that all teachers and students together can share the joy of this glory.

By the end of this August, the international volunteer in northern Thailand had returned to the school. This volunteer service had continued for eight consecutive years in Huilong secondary school education service. This service establishes our university's mission to become the benchmark of charitable education institute. The deputy head, from the Department of the Information Technology, Chen Chih-heng had won the third place of the International Youth Volunteer contest hosted by the Ministry of Education Youth Development Department. During the award ceremony, Chen passed the torch, and then looked forward to continue the spirit of volunteer service.

Lastly, the ceremony will be divided into three stages. The first stage: Heaven Worshipping Ceremony. The second stage: Teachers’ Ceremony. The third stage: Apprentice Ceremony. Before the "Heaven, Earth, and Teacher" tablets, the president led the students during the worshipping. The main offerings are wine, apples and dates. “Wine” represents the eternity of education, "apple" represents virtue, and "dates" represents elegance. The second stage is the Teachers' Ceremony, offered products include: Chinese bacon (discipline), a ruler (regulations), and a bag of rice (merit). Three parents walked on the stage and showed respect for the teachers on teaching children. The third stage is the Apprentice Ceremony. Teachers sit in front of the stage, and 16 freshmen from each department came to the stage to accept the apprentice posts from the teachers. When all the ceremonies were completed, students would be formally became the university's students, and the audience needed to salute to the stage to complete the whole Apprenticeship Ceremony.

This year the school has produced thermos and stationery group by the principal representative of the teachers back gift, accepted by the 16 freshman representatives, to give all freshmen, spirit stands for "drink from the source" and "hard to learn", I hope everyone in the study of the way, to forget from time to time from the wake of this, and this is also echoed souvenir cup empty theory, look forward to you students through four years of college education, knowledge and wisdom accumulated year after year, four years have achieved, rewarding experience.

President Dr. Chao Chihyang believed that the hope of a new life into the school from the beginning will be able to develop the virtues of respect for teachers and can lead a social righteousness. President Chao also applied the motto "Apply the Knowledge, Present the Sincerity" to all freshmen to develop their abilities, talents, integrity, skills, and sincerity for serving the society in the future.
